@Bullethead The name of the store was pets'n'stuff but I think they're just a small local store. The brand of the antlers was 'Prairie Dog Antlers' I think they distribute to other stores, their site...

This is just one of those "gut feeling" type guesses:  I think the "pincer" idea was a mistake by the observer and what was really happening was just plain old pressure flaking.  Maybe the flaker...

Props to Makalu!  That does indeed clear up a lot, I think....  As I understand things, the long prong is for support and the flaking is done with the short one.  Is that correct?

ok well it held up a little longer with a 5mm nail for the long prong but not surprisingly the short 3mm nail prong gave way eventually. I'll use a 5mm nail there and hammer it down to size on one...
